Abstract

  • Background: The Indian subcontinent, is a region where oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is very common, and distributed over multiple anatomical sites. A detailed clinical and radiographic evaluation is required to be able to carry out an effective treatment. Aim: The goal of the study is to figure out the effects that various bone invasion phenomena have on surrounding cortical bone in OSCC patients by employing CBCT, and also to check the correlation between these invasion patterns and the histopathological grading. Material and methods: This study concerning patients of OSCC have been subjects. CBCT pictures were divided according to the different patterns of bone invasion and these were further analyzed to detect bone damage. The relationship between the invasion patterns and the histopathological grades was studied with the help of statistical analysis. Results: This research described three categories of bone invasion: invasive, mixed, and erosive. The correlation was found to be positive significant between the bone invasion patterns and the histopathological grades. Conclusion: Early detection of bone involvement in OSCC by CBCT is crucial, it can contribute to treatment decision-making and better patient prognoses.
