Outcome differences according to age beyond forty in assisted reproductive cycles using intra cytoplasmic sperm injection in Benghazi.

Abstract
Women at mid-30s and beyond are considered to be of advanced age both fecundity for spontaneous conception and the success rate of assisted conception are markedly reduced. The aim of this study is to evaluate outcomes of assisted reproductive cycles using intra cytoplasmic sperm injection according to age after 40 in women with primary infertility. 117 women under criteria were stratified into four groups according to age in years; 40 – 41, 42 – 43, 44- 45 and > 45. All have their hormonal levels measured and induction using one or two agents of human menopausal gonadotropin and recombinant follicle stimulating hormone; then ovulation response monitored and technique of intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection then embryo transfer implemented. Outcomes in terms of fertilization, successful embryo transfer, high quality grade embryo, clinical pregnancy and live birth are monitored and reported. All of outcomes were affected advertently by advancing age suggesting poor utility of assisted reproductive technology in very advanced age mother.
